The Expendables

The Expendables

With the new Expendables 2 movie out, I felt God prompting me tonight to ask the question, “Are you expendable?” Do you feel used, abused, worthless, unappreciated, helpless, hopeless, devalued, unloved, exposed, fearful, derailed from your purpose? This could be at work, at home, at church, with your friends and family, or with your so-called friends and family. Oops did that slip out?

Now I don’t claim to have seen nor can guarantee that I will ever see either Expendables or Expendables 2, but I have seen hundreds, if not thousands, of people who Satan has tried to disarm by calling them so. He has whispered things like, “You’re gonna be fired today”, “You better work late to show your boss how valuable you are”, “You’re stuck at the bottom and will never move up the ladder”, “All you will ever be is a diaper changing, dish washing, laundering cook and you’re not even good at that.”

I think you see the pattern, but what God gave me tonight is that there are other jobs if you get fired, time with your family and God is much more important than impressing your boss, the bottom rung isn’t a bad place (Jesus washed the feet of the disciples and didn’t complain) maybe He’s got you there for a reason, and think about those diapers (I’m not sure whether Jesus wore Pampers or Huggies, but Mary had to change them).

Your value is not based on the position you hold, the garbage you have to deal with, the people under you, the money you make (or don’t make), the debt you are in, the size of your retirement account, the house or car you have. Your value as a person is so great or that God would trade His Son for you. All you have to do is accept that.

God created us to be incredible, not expendable.

His desire is that we blossom within His love, developing, growing closer to Him, becoming more like Him. This is a process and He gives us a little at a time to let us grow into the person and child He has created and designed us to be, we must be patient.

We are not expendable, we are not unloved. We are children of the Most High, Creator of all, saved by the blood of Jesus. Valued as such, we are more than conquerors and no one can take that away from us.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:35-39 ESV
